Martinsburg's Mykera Days held off teammate and defending champion Jasmyn Hosby and Musselman's Tara Sharpe as the three finished within 0.04. The top 5 were all under 12.80. The 1-2 finish for Martinsburg was joined by taking 6th in the event as well in an important event for the team standings.

200 Meter Dash
Martinsburg's Jasmyn Hosby just squeezed past teammate Mykera Days at the finish line to take the win by 0.01. Washington's Devyn Hosby edged Musselman's Tara Sharpe for 3rd. The top 6 were all under 26.70. The 1-2 finish for Martinsburg was again supplemented by a 3rd placer, this time scoring a 5th in another important event for the team race.

400 Meter Dash
Martinsburg's Jasmyn Hosby made the pass on Fairmont Senior's Alyssa Scherich in the final 20 meters to take the win. Hosby's 57.14 stands as the 7th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 6th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Scherich's 57.43 stands as the 10th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 9th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Elkins' Letitia Propst joined the pair in running uner 59 seconds, and Washington's Devyn Hosby and John Marshall's Ashley Haught came through under 60.

800 Meter Run
A large contingent of runners came through in 67 seconds on the first lap. Hurricane's Tori Dent and Elkins' Letitia Propst were at the front of that pack, with Hedgesville's Anna Lizon and Fairmont Senior's Alyssa Scherich right behind. Propst made the pass just before the 500 meter mark, but Dent kept her from completing the pass into the turn, holding Propst to the outside. The pair hit 700 meters together and raced down the stretch with Propst finally getting away at about 750 meters to take the win by just over 2 seconds. Dent just held off George Washington's Sarah Hamilton and Lizon for 2nd. Propst was the only one to go under 2:20 with her 2:18.03. The top 3 were under 2:21. The top 6 were all under 2:24.

1600 Meter Run
This was a fun race that saw 1st through 6th being separated by just over 4 seconds. The entire field was together through one lap, all crossing between 1:17 and 1:18, with Elkins' Letitia Propst at the front of that pack. There was still a massive pack after two laps at 2:42-2:43 with Propst, Preston's Kaitlyn Workman and Nicholas' Morgan Kesecker holding about a 1 meter lead on the next group. After three laps, Propst remained in front with Workman and Kesecker still right behind. 7 remained in the pack, all crossing between 4:03 and 4:04. The last lap again saw the kick of Letitia Propst as she powered down the stretch to take the win. Only Workman was able to challenge before falling by less than half a second. Kesecker and Wheeling Park's Lauren Tarovisky were less than 1.5 seconds behind as the foursome all finished in under 5:20. Bridgeport's Morganne Phillips and George Washington's Sarah Hamilton also finished in under 5:22.

3200 Meter Run
Lap 1 say a pack of 10 came through in around 1:18. The 2nd lap saw Elkin's Letitia Propst move to the front, but a strong pack of 8 was still right there, with 4 others strung out closely behind. The pack came through in 2:44. At the end of lap 3, Propst, University's Amelia Paladino, and Hampshire's Rachel Lipps crossed together in 4:10. There were still 7 pretty much together. On the fourth lap, the lead pack slimmed to four. Propst, Paladino, Lipps, and Preston's Kaitlyn Workman came through in 5:34-35. Nicholas' Morgan Kesecker and Bridgeport's Morganne Phillips were trying to hang on to the back of the lead pack. On lap 5, Propst and Paladino generated a slight gap on the rest of the pack, and Phillips joined up with Workman and Lipps, leaving five still in contention. Propst and Paladino crossed at 7:02. The other three hit 7:03. On lap 6, Propst and Paladino extended their cushion over the rest, coming through in 8:30 to 8:33 for the threesome of Workman, Lipps, and Phillips. At the end of lap 7, Propst started to generate a gap on Paladino. Phillips and Workman had started to generate a gap on Lipps. On the final lap, Propst continued to pull away and took the win by over 3 seconds in 11:10.99. Paladino easily held on for 2nd with her 11:14.13. Workman hit an 11:20.00 with Phillips just squeezing in under 11:21. Lipps held on for 5th with Musselman's Heather Jenkins coming up for 6th. The top six were under 11:38. The top 11 were under 11:52.

100 Meter High Hurdles
Buckhannon-Upshur's Emily Godwin sped past the field with a 14.77. That time ranks as the 3rd Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 3rd Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Valerie Kirk also made it in under 15 with her 14.99 clocking. That stands Tied for the 10th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and Tied for the 9th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Fairmont Senior's Alyssa Scherich ran a 14.98 in the trials which stands as the 9th Best All-Time State Meet performance and the 8th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Brooke's Ali Crawford and Parkersburg's Taylor Fordyce edged out Scherich in the finals as the front 5 all came in under 15.25.

300 Meter Low Hurdles
Buckhannon-Upshur's Emily Godwin grabbed a State Meet Record with her 44.23 as she took apart the field to win by over 1.6 seconds. Her time stands as the Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Winfield's Valerie Kirk and Lewis County's Lindsey Williams made it in under 46 seconds. No one else was under 47.

4x100 Meter Relay
Martinsburg's crew of Kala Ames, Breayun Days, Mykera Days, and Jasmyn Hosby ran away from the field to win by nearly 2 seconds. Their 48.83 is the 2nd Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 2nd Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Morgantown held 2nd, and 3rd through 5th were separated by just 0.01 with Brooke coming out on top of Jefferson and Winfield. The top five were under 51 seconds.

4x200 Meter Relay
Martinsburg ran away from the field again, winning by over 2 seconds. The group of Mykera Days, Breayun Days, Alisha Fincham, and Shalynn Dickens scored the 9th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 9th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance with their 1:44.24 run. University was the only other team under 1:47. Jefferson was the only other team under 1:48. The top 7 were under 1:49.

4x400 Meter Relay
Washington took the lead on a 59 second 3rd leg from Devyn Hosby and went on to win by over 1.3 seconds. The 4:05.05 run by the unit of Jenay Grant, Emily Lorenzen, Devyn Hosby, and Nikki Ashbaugh was good enough to be the 9th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 8th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Jefferson joined them under 4:07, and John Marshall was just over 4:07.

4x800 Meter Relay
George Washington took the lead from the gun on a 2:24 opening leg from Carol Good. Preston took the lead near the end of the 2nd leg with a 2:25 leg from Kaitlyn Workman. They held that spot through three legs, crossing the line nearly simultaneously with Morgantown. Parkersburg got a 2:21.5 anchor leg from Tori Boggs to take the lead, but Preston's Laura Shaffer and her 2:24.0 anchor leg were able to get back around on the final stretch. Parkersburg held off Morgantown for 2nd. The top 3 teams were under 9:50. The top 5 were under 9:55 and the top 8 made it in under 10:00.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Buckhannon-Upshur just got past Jefferson to take the win by a mere 0.08 seconds. Parkersburg was nearly a full second back in 3rd. Wheeling Park was close on Parkersburg's heels. The front five were under 1:08.

High Jump
Buckhannon-Upshur's Emily Godwin soared over 5'8 to easily take the event. In an important happening for the team race, teammate Lauren Cvechko was the only other jumper to clear 5'4 to give Buckhannon-Upshur a 1-2 finish.. Nitro's Jordan Tate and Nicholas' Ashleigh Taylor were the only other jumpers to clear 5'2. Godwin's 5'8 (along with her 5'4 from last year), makes her performance tied for the 4th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and tied for the 3rd Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance.

Pole Vault
John Marshall's Kiley Defibaugh was the only vaulter to clear 11'0 to take the title. Defibaugh's 11'0 vault along with previous State Meet Vaults of 10'6 and 8'0, marks her performance as the 5th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 4th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Jefferson's Kaitlyn Clark was the only other vaulter to clear 10'6. That vault along with last year's 10'6 vault gives her the 8th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. Three other vaulters cleared 10'0.

Long Jump
Capital's Alexandria Allen again defended her title giving her three in a row...two with Capital and one with Morgantown. She was the only jumper to hit 17'0. Martinsburg's Breayun Days and Buckhannon-Upshur's Emily Godwin both went 16'10, with the 2nd spot going to Days based on her 2nd best jump. Martinsburg's Kala Ames picked up 4 important points for her team as the only other jumper to go past 16'0. One of my predicted placers didn't jump.

Shot Put
Buckhannon-Upshur's Karissa Knabenshue tossed the shot 40'1.25 to defend her title. That toss stands as the 8th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. She won the event by nearly 3 feet with only St. Albans' Bethany Drury also going past 37'0. Buckhannon-Upshur's Mercedes Dowell scored a big 3rd for her team as the only other thrower to exceed 36'0.

Discus
Buckhannon-Upshur's Karissa Knabenshue made it two-for-two in the throws with her 126'9 toss. That throw is the 8th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 7th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance and won the event by over 9'. John Marshall's Alexis Montes was nearly four feet better than her next competitor in taking 2nd. All six placers were over 110'0.
